Automatic Transmission Services
Regular Automatic Transmission Servicing
Your vehicle’s automatic transmission should be serviced as per the manufacturer’s recommended intervals. If your vehicle is frequently used for heavy towing, it might require more frequent servicing to ensure optimal performance.
If you’re unsure, call us at Punjab Automotive Garage today. Our experts can assess the condition of your transmission fluid and the performance of your transmission system.
HANDY TIP: Remove the transmission dipstick and wipe the fluid residue onto a piece of white paper. If the fluid appears dirty or has a burnt smell, it’s a sign that your transmission needs attention.

Transmission Services at Punjab Automotive Garage
We offer two types of automatic transmission services:
1. Automatic Transmission Drain & Replace Fluid
Our trained technicians follow these steps:
- Test drive the vehicle to check for smooth operation of the automatic transmission.
- Lift the vehicle on a hoist and remove the service drain plug to release the fluid.
- The drain plug contains a magnet, which we inspect for metal fragments to assess internal wear.
- (This service is only performed if the transmission is deemed in serviceable condition.)
- Replace the drain plug with a new sealing washer and refill the transmission with the correct fluid type.
- Test drive the vehicle again to ensure proper operation.
WARNING: Do not attempt to change the transmission fluid yourself unless you are certain about the correct fluid type. Using incorrect fluid can cause severe damage to the transmission. Many modern vehicles have removed filler ports to prevent improper servicing, as transmission repairs or replacements are expensive.
2. Automatic Transmission Fluid, Filter, Gasket Replacement, and Band Adjustment (if applicable)
Here’s what this service involves:
- Test drive the vehicle to assess gear shifts and detect any slippage.
- Lift the vehicle on a hoist and prepare the transmission pan for removal.
- Drain the fluid and dispose of it in compliance with strict environmental regulations.
- Clean the area thoroughly before unscrewing the pan studs for inspection.
- Inspect and replace the filter with a new unit.
- Adjust the transmission bands (if applicable) to the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Replace the old pan gasket and securely bolt the pan back to the gearbox housing.
- Refill the transmission with the manufacturer-recommended fluid.
- Perform another test drive to confirm proper operation.
Modern Transmission Systems
In recent years, transmissions have become integrated with vehicles’ onboard computer systems. Servicing at the manufacturer’s recommended intervals ensures longevity and efficiency. Incorrect servicing, on the other hand, can cause the computer to inhibit the transmission’s performance, leading to reduced power and increased operating costs.
Signs Your Transmission Needs Attention
If you notice any of the following, have your vehicle inspected promptly:
- Rough or jerky operation
- Slipping gears in drive
- Difficulty selecting gears
- Visible fluid leaks
Early detection and repair can prevent further damage and reduce overall repair costs.
